From a scriptural perspective, this question is worthy of contemplation because the boys and girls of this generation are at a loss for understanding the importance of character development. Boyfriend, girlfriend, breakup, then another boyfriend, another girlfriend, what is all of this? This is a lack of character. They call it the new/modern society. However, the mind, the senses, and the body are the same. If you are polluting it, how will you ever make progress? How will the grihastha life (marriage) work? Your tendency/instincts are becoming so contaminated; how will you be able to accept a person as your husband/wife? How will you be able to accept someone as your better half?
I lived in a grihastha household for 11 years, and from the time I got the understanding/intelligence, I had never heard of the word – Divorce. I had never heard this word. The mother and father used to get their children married nicely, and the couple accepted each other as their life partners for the rest of their lives. The progeny of such marriages produced children who were patriots, devotees, and dignified. And what is happening these days? No connection with the parents, if they ask any questions, they get back a rude reply, and if they try to scold children then they would say that I will either leave or commit suicide. What is there left to say after that?
Where Is The New Generation Headed?
The new generation of today is headed towards a very wrong path. Young kids, girls and boys alike, have started the intake of intoxicants. In our school times, the term girlfriend/boyfriend was completely unaccustomed and unused; there were no mobile phones even invented back then. Simple kids of the villages came back from school and just played and ate in their homes. Life was pure. In today’s time, how can I say that you get a pure Vaishnava or a devout person to marry unless God himself finds someone like that for you? Otherwise, your austerity, purity and devotion will be the proof of this if you find a husband like that. Because in today’s times, our society is headed downhill.
Who these days doesn’t drink, who is without addictions, who is without adultery or walking with restraint? Even if someone exists, one in a million might only love his wife or her husband. Only God can give you if you get such a husband. It will result from how ascetic you are, how much worship you do, and how much virtue you have earned.
Importance of Character
We can only hope to get someone better if we are good. Similarly, if you are not following morality, you cannot get someone like that. However, if you have righteous behaviour, then God must have made arrangements. I pray with folded hands that the one whose character is not good can do nothing and is nothing in any department. After four days of good times, the dark night awaits; it will bring a lot of bad name, no matter how big you may be.
If your character is not good, you will shine for a few days and fuse like a halogen bulb. If your character is good, you will shine like an oil lamp, but your fame, happiness and prosperity will continue to grow for a long time. Believe it. My prayer to you is that this lack of character that is seen in our children, in our brothers, in our sisters, and society can be improved if we improve ourselves. It can only be improved if we improve one by one; otherwise, to tell you the truth, these things will only be possible in a dream that a pure girl or a pure boy is getting married.
Live in Relationship
Another thing that has come into being these days is called Live In Relationship. Now tell me, what is all this? Staying together for a month or two months and then saying we don’t like it. Do you think it is a grocery store with goods? You see what kind of thoughts you all are cultivating. Just think about it: is this the principle? Two bodies are meeting, and then after some time, saying no, we don’t like it. Is this some society? What is all this happening? The direction in which our society is headed today is called decline. Decline in the name of progress; understand this. Whichever heart you look into, you only find anger, fights, quarrels, and blame. Such grown-up children are seen talking to their parents with so much rudeness that one wonders what progress they will make in life. If you are getting an education, then you must develop humility within, you must know how to bow down, and you must develop purity; how is this demonic intelligence coming in today’s children? Their eating habits and character are spoiled.
My request to parents is to behave friendly with your children. Try to make them understand that wherever you are headed is a filthy and bad place. Because of this, life will become completely useless and destroyed, and the children will become hollow. Will there be any enthusiasm for marriage? How will a great society be built when you have soiled your feelings? I request the children to be careful and request the parents to somehow impart this in the minds of our new children that destroying celibacy is equivalent to destroying life; destroying character is destroying life. This is the foundation; if there is no character, a palace cannot be built. There is no foundation for anyone without character.
Conclusion
Now is the time. Keep your life pure. Celibacy (brahmacharya) strengthens the memory, makes the body grow and develops the organs. Marriage is the path to attaining God. Chant the name of God while performing your duties; God will be pleased and free us from this impure life. The name of God, the glory of God, that is what can do miracles, it is certain. The power to trample all the sorrows is present in the hymns of God. That is why, my dear, I am telling you, please listen, chant the name, and depend on God; this world is sorrowful; you do not understand this yet because you are enjoying worldly pleasures, so it seems this is happiness. Engage in true conduct, ask for forgiveness from God and chant the name; all the sorrows will be erased.
