Ashtayam Seva – Method and Rules

3. Ashtayam Seva – Shringaar

3.1 Bathing (Snan)

Now, imagine that the beloved couple, Priya-Priyatam, have returned after enjoying the water play at the banks of the Yamuna. Their clothes are wet from the Yamuna water; now you are bathing them. While bathing your Thakur Ji, sing the following verse. Take water for the bath according to the season. You can give them a full bath if you have a deity idol or an image of Shri Ji. If you only have a picture or a painting of the deity, gently wipe it with a lightly wet cloth. Don’t limit yourself to the physical actions alone; try to immerse yourself deeply in the emotions. Our Lord is hungry for emotions, after all.

Snaan kunj mein doo aaye,
Ratan jatit jahan hauj suhaaye.
Jal sugandh tinmein ati sohain,
Khile kamal jinmein man mohin.
Tin par bhramar karat gunjaar,
Phooli phool rahin drum daar.
Doo kunj sukh-punj hain, tinko ek hi ghaat,
Snaan karat jahan jugalvar, tahaan alin ke thaath.

Adhar arun tere kaisain kain duraun,
Ravi-shashi-shank bhajan kiy apu bas, adbhut rangani kusum banaun.
Shubh kausaya kasiv kaustubh mani, pankaj-sutani lai angani lupau.
Harshit indu tajat jaise jaladhar, so bhram dhoondh kahaan hon paaun.
Ambuni-dambh kachhu nahin vyaapt, himkar tapai taahi kaisen kain bujhaun.
Jai Shrihit Harivansh rasik nav rang piy, bhrikuti bhauhn tere khanjan laraun.

3.2 Shringaar (Adornment)

After giving a bath, you can now adorn your beloved (priya-priyatam). Dress them in clothes and adorn them with freshly made garlands and jewellery. You can perform this service of adornment according to your available arrangements. While performing the adornment, sing these verses:

Majjan kari baithi chauki par, hit kar nij singaar banavat.
Kaari saari hari kanchuki, atarauta peero pehiravat.
Laal laal cheera upareina, patuka-jhnga ju soothan bhavat.
Bahut bhushan pehiray tilak dai, hit Brajlaal su bhog lagavat.

Kari singaar raajat rang bheene, reejhi laadili-laal jimavat.
Kaur-kaur prati chhabi avlokat, bali-bali juthan aapun paavat.
Lalitadik leene kar chaurani, nirakhi-nirakhi nainani ju siravat.
Jai Shrihit Harilal nikat ali roophahi, paandan lai paan khavavat.

3.3 Shringaar Bhog (Food Offering)

After adorning your beloved (Priya-Priyatam), show them a mirror and imagine that they become completely absorbed in each other’s beauty as they gaze into the mirror. Present the offerings for the Shringar Bhog in front of them and imagine that they are receiving them. After they have received the Bhog, wash the hands and face of Radha-Mohan Ju and then wipe them with a cloth. While performing this service, sing the following verses.

Sajani ko rakhyo rukh graas lain laagay mukh,
Jo jo man ruchyo paak bahuri so mangayo.
Keeni manuhari dhani laal rasik chudamani,
Pyaari man bhaawati saheli jo chitayo.
Adli badli graas let sakhiyani anand det,
Chandrakala ghevar ne swaad ati badhaayo.

Batrus pare syam gaur kahat jaat laau aur,
Tushthi pushti hot kiyo bhojan man bhaayo.

Meva phal pai swaad adhik so janayo.

Vadan kar angauchi sakhi paan rachhi khwyaayo.
Bali bali Vrindavan hit roop saaj arati kau,
Panch naad hot sis chamvar lai dhuraayo.

3.4 Shringaar Aarti

After offering your Lordships the Shringar Bhog, it is time for their Dhoop Aarti. Prepare the plate for the Aarti, and while performing the Aarti, sing these verses:

Aaju neeki bani Shree Radha-ki Nagari
Brajjivati-juth mein roop aru chaturai,
Sheel-singaar-gun sabni ten aagri.
Kamal dakshin bhujha, vaam bhuj ansh sakhi,
