Ashtayam Seva – Method and Rules

2. Ashtayam Seva – Morning Forest Stroll (Van Vihar)

Ashtayam Seva - Morning Forest Stroll (Van Vihar)

Now, feel that your divine couple (Radha and Krishna) are strolling hand-in-hand through the streets of Vrindavan, admiring its beauty. If you have the arrangement, you may let your deity or naam seva take a forest stroll (for example, in your home garden). If not, allow them to experience the stroll in your heart and mind. Sing this verse:

Van ki kunjan kunjan dolan.
Nikast nipat saankari beethin, parsat naahin nicholan.
Paat kaal rajnī sab jaage, soochat sukh drig lolan.
Aalasvant arun ati vyakul, kachhu upajat gati golan.
Niratan bhrikuti badan ambuj mridu, saras haas madhur bolan.
Ati aasakt laal ali lampat, bas kiine binu molan.
Bilulit sithil shyaam chhuti lat, raajat ruchir kapolan.
Rati viparit chumban parirambhan, chibuk chaaru tak tolan.
Kabhu sramit kisalay sijya par, mukh anchal jhak jholan.
Din Harivansh daasi hiy seenchat, vaaridhi keli kalolan.

Aaju sanbharat naahin gori,
Phoolī phirat matt karini jyon surat samudra jhakorī.
Aalas valit arun dhoosar mashi prakat karat drig chhori,
Piy par karun ameer ras barsat adhar aruntā thori.
Baandhat bhring uraj ambuj par alak nibandh kisori,
Sangam kirchi kirchi kanchuki bandh sithil bhai kati dori.
Deti asees nirakhi juvati jan jinkē preeti na thori,
(Jai Shri) Hit Harivansh vipin bhutal par santat avichal jori.

Aavat laal priya bhuj jorain,
Dagmagat aaras ras bheene, ati surang nainani ki korain.
Chitvani sahaj chaaru ati chanchal, musikan mand mithun chit chhorain.
Hit Dhruv nirakhi rasik Lalitadik, daarati waari praan trin torain.

2.1 Jhulan (Shyama Shyam on the Swing)

ashytam seva Jhulan (Shyama Shyam on the Swing)

Now, imagine that you have prepared a swing for your beloved, and they are sitting on it, enjoying the beauty of Vrindavan. The vines of Vrindavan are also present on the swing, and you are gently swinging your Lord. They are so pleased by this that they begin singing sweet melodies. If you have the means, you can arrange for your Lord to swing or imagine them swinging with love. Sing this verse:

Jhoolat doo navel kisor.
Rajani janit rang sukh soochat, ang ang uth bhore.
Ati anurag bhare mil gaavat, sur mandar kal ghor.
Beech beech preetam chit chorat, priya nain ki kor.
Abla ati sukumaar darat man, var hindor jhakor.
Pulkhi pulkhi preetam ur lagat, dai nav urj ankor.
Arujhi vimal maal kankan saun, kundal saun kach dor.
Vepath jut kyon banai vivechit, anand badhyo na thor.
Nirakh nirakh phoolat lalitadik vivi mukh chandra chakor.
De asis harivansh prasansat kari anchal ki chhor.

2.2 Water Recreation (Jal Vihar)

Ashtayam Seva - Water Recreation (Nauka Vihar)

Now, imagine that your beloved (Priya-Priyatam) have arrived at the banks of the Yamuna River after swinging. Both Radha and Mohan Ju are sitting together in a boat, enjoying the beauty of Yamuna Ji. If you have the means, you can arrange a water recreation and boat ride for your Thakur Ji; otherwise, you can imagine them indulging in this water pastime with love. As you visualize this, sing the following verse:

Dekho sakhi ri dekho doo baithe naav mein.
Gavat aawat chapal chalawat, sahchari champa chaav mein.
Shyamashyam diye garabhiyan, nauka bich ras bhav mein.
Nagar naval sakhin ki ankhiyan, lagi laptiin laptaav mein.
